Triethylene glycol monomethyl ether (CAS 112‑35‑6) is a colorless, low-volatility liquid organic ether with molecular formula C₇H₁₆O₄ and molecular weight 164.20 g/mol. It is miscible with water and many polar organic solvents.
Uses: Triethylene glycol monomethyl ether is primarily used as a diluent and solvent in hydraulic brake fluids, where it can constitute 40‑60% of the formulation. It also serves as a solvent, stabilizer, or intermediate in coatings, printing inks, adhesives, and varnishes, as well as in specialty chemical syntheses.
Packaging and Handling: Commercially, the product is typically supplied in drums, such as 200 kg steel or plastic drums. It should be stored below approximately 30 °C in a cool, well-ventilated place, away from strong oxidizing agents.
