Applications;
Prop-1-ene-1,3-sultone is a sulfonate compound, mainly used as an intermediate in organic synthesis and pharmaceutical chemistry, and also as an additive in electrolytes.

Preparation;
Liquid bromine (2.06 mL) is slowly added dropwise to an aqueous solution of sodium propionate-2-ene sulfonate (5.5 g, 38.19 mmol). The solution is stirred at room temperature for 2 hours, then a very small amount of Na₂SO₃ is added, and the solvent is removed under vacuum.
Concentrated hydrochloric acid is added to the dibromosulfonate, and the resulting mixture is stirred at room temperature for 1 day, then heated under reduced pressure at 150-160°C. After the reaction is complete, the mixture is distilled under vacuum.
At room temperature, β-bromosulfonic acid (4 g) and triethylamine (4.3 mL) are stirred in a solution of benzene (150 mL) for 4 hours. The triethylamine hydrobromide salt is then filtered, the filtrate is concentrated, and recrystallized from chloroform to obtain Prop-1-ene-1,3-sultone.
