Introduction;
Solvent Red 49 is a non-azo dye, including xanthannaphthalene, triarylmethane, and anthraquinone dyes. Xanthannaphthalene dyes, also known as oxanthracene dyes, are dyes with a xanthannaphthalene ring. These dyes are similar to diphenylmethane and triphenylmethane derivatives.

Chemical Properties;
Soluble in water and ethanol, exhibiting a bluish-red color with strong fluorescence; slightly soluble in acetone; readily soluble in ethylene glycol ether. In concentrated sulfuric acid, it appears yellowish-brown with strong green fluorescence; upon dilution, it turns bright red, then bluish-red and orange. Heating its aqueous solution with sodium hydroxide produces a rose-red flocculent precipitate.

Applications;
Solvent Red 49 is mainly used for industrial staining. Due to its fat solubility, Solvent Red 49 exhibits strong fluorescence in solution and is used as a fluorescent staining agent for cells in laboratories, in colored glass, and in the specialty fireworks industry. It was also once used as a coloring agent for condiments (mainly chili powder and chili oil) and as a food additive, but its use in food coloring is now prohibited.

Applications;
Solvent Red 49 is used for coloring grease, candle wax, rubber, plastic, and clear varnish.
