Basic Information: Chemical formula NaSCN, molecular weight 81.07, it is a white, hygroscopic crystalline or powder form.
Physical and chemical parameters: Melting point approximately 287℃ (decomposition), density approximately 1.735 g/cm³. Highly soluble in water and ethanol, the aqueous solution is neutral.
Characteristic reaction: Turns bright red when exposed to iron ions (Fe³⁺); Turns deep blue when exposed to cobalt ions (Co²⁺).
Product Specifications: Common purity ranges from 98% to 99%. Packaging specifications include 250g (in vials) or 25kg (in bags/containers).
Industrial reference standard: HG/T 3812-2006.
Common grades of reagent quality: GR (Premium Pure), AR (Analytical Pure), CP (Chemical Pure), ACS (American Chemical Society Standard)
Sodium thiocyanate is widely used and can be classified into two main categories: industrial applications and chemical analysis.
Application in the industrial field
Textile industry: Used as a spinning solvent for polyacrylonitrile (acrylic) fibers.
Metal treatment: As an anti-corrosion agent for acid pickling, it prevents metal corrosion and is also used for black nickel plating.
Pharmaceuticals and pesticides: Used for producing raw materials for antibiotics, antihypertensive drugs, etc., as well as pesticides and plant defoliant agents.
Other industries: Used for color film processing, dyeing auxiliaries, rubber treatment and the manufacture of artificial mustard oil.
Laboratory and analytical purposes
Analytical reagents: Used for the determination of elements such as silver, copper, iron, and niobium.
Chemical synthesis: Used for manufacturing other thiocyanates or organic thiocyanates
Hazard: Toxic (Xn). Swallowing, skin contact or inhalation of dust is harmful (H302, H312, H332). It releases highly toxic gas when exposed to acid.
Storage requirements: Must be stored in a sealed and dry environment, placed in a cool and ventilated area. Strictly prohibit storage together with acids or alkalis.
