✨Product Desctiption

Sodium formate (also known as formic acid sodium salt) is a white, crystalline powder or granules with excellent solubility and reducing properties. As the sodium salt of formic acid, it serves as a versatile chemical intermediate and functional additive across a wide spectrum of industries. With its strong reducing capability and buffering action, sodium formate is increasingly valued as an eco-friendly alternative to more hazardous chemicals in numerous high-volume applications

🧩 Applications

Leather Tanning Industry
A primary consumer of sodium formate, the leather industry utilizes it as a tanning agent and buffering agent to preserve and soften animal hides. It functions as a “camouflage acid” that promotes the uniform penetration of chrome tanning agents, ensuring a high-quality leather finish. Additionally, it helps lower the acidity of tanning solutions and assists in removing impurities to improve final leather quality.

De-icing Agent
Sodium formate is widely used as an effective and environmentally friendlier de-icer for airport runways, roads, and other surfaces in cold climates. Compared to traditional salts (e.g., sodium chloride), it offers significantly less corrosivity and reduced environmental contamination.

Textile Industry
In textile processing, sodium formate serves as a dyeing and printing auxiliary. It acts as a pH stabilizer during dyeing and printing processes, improving dye fixation on fabrics for vibrant colors and better wash fastness. It is also used as a mordant to fix dyes and enhance color fastness.

Chemical Synthesis & Laboratory Reagents
Sodium formate is an important intermediate in the production of formic acid, oxalic acid, and sodium dithionite. In analytical chemistry, it is used as a precipitant for noble metals, a buffering agent for strong mineral acids, and a complexing agent. It is also employed in crystallization, molecular-based material construction, and chemiluminescence techniques.

Oil & Gas Industry
In exploratory drilling operations, high-density saturated sodium formate solutions enhance equipment high-temperature resistance, prevent rust, and exhibit microbial degradation functions.

Personal Care & Cosmetics
Sodium formate is used in personal care products as a buffering agent and preservative.

Food & Beverage
It functions as a microbial nutrient or nutrient adjunct in food and drink manufacturing, promoting the growth of certain microbial species and supporting one-carbon metabolism.

Enzyme Stabilization
Sodium formate is utilized as an enzyme stabilizer in detergent formulations and other cleaning products.

🏭 Storage Conditions

  • Temperature: Store at room temperature in a cool, dark place (recommended below 15°C). Alternatively, storage between +5°C and +30°C is also acceptable.

  • Atmosphere: Store under inert gas to prevent degradation.

  • Moisture Protection: Keep containers tightly sealed and store away from moisture, as the product is hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air).

  • Long-term Storage: For extended storage periods, keep in a cool, dry place.

  • In-solvent Storage: If stored in solution, recommend -80°C for up to 6 months or -20°C for up to 1 month, with sealed containers away from moisture
