🔹 Main Applications:

1. Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus:
   
   Sitagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that improves glycemic control by:

   • Increasing insulin secretion

   • Decreasing glucagon levels
     
     This action helps lower blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.

2. Monotherapy or Combination Therapy:
   
   Often prescribed alone or in combination with metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin.
   
   Sitagliptin is the active ingredient in the branded drug Januvia®, and part of Janumet® (Sitagliptin + Metformin).

3. Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API):
   
   Widely used by generic drug manufacturers for the formulation of oral anti-diabetic drugs targeting DPP-4.
