  • Pharmaceutical intermediates
Meropenem side chain is a pharmaceutical intermediate mainly used in the production of antibiotic drugs such as meropenem. Used to treat patients with severe infections or multidrug-resistant bacterial infections, both G+and G – bacteria have good therapeutic effects, but not suitable for combating methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It is also not applicable to infections caused by other carbapenem resistant bacteria, such as some Acinetobacter species. If used against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, aminoglycosides (such as amikacin) should be used in combination.
  • MeropeneM
Meropenem is another semi synthetic carbapenem antibiotic for parenteral administration, following the launch of imipenem cilastatin in the United States. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin binding proteins (PBPs) involved in cell wall synthesis through its covalent bonds, thereby exerting antibacterial effects. Sensitive to both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, with strong antibacterial activity against Gram negative bacteria in particular. If the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for about 90% of Escherichia coli is 0.08-0.15mg/L, over 90% of Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains are highly sensitive to it (MIC<4mg Chemicalbook/L), and all bloodthirsty bacteria, including ampicillin resistant strains, are highly sensitive to it (MIC is 0.06-1mg/L). Neisseria gonorrhoeae is also highly sensitive to meropenem, with activity 15 times stronger than imipenem. Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, and other coagulase negative staphylococci are sensitive to meropenem, while most strains of Enterococcus faecalis are highly or moderately sensitive to meropenem. Meropenem with a MIC of 0.06-4mg/L can inhibit almost all fragile pseudomonas. Anaerobic bacteria such as Streptococcus, Propionibacterium, and Actinomyces are also sensitive to meropenem.
