3.Cosmetic Industry Applications
This product is widely used in cosmetics, offering excellent moisturizing and skin-nourishing properties. It exhibits excellent skin absorption, effectively contacting hair follicles within the epidermis, penetrating deep into the skin layers, and delivering active ingredients from cosmetics to maximize their efficacy. As a cosmetic solvent, skin moisturizer, and penetration enhancer, Isopropyl Palmitate can be incorporated into cosmetic formulations such as sol-gel products, bath oils, hair conditioners, skin creams, sunscreens, and shaving creams. Recommended addition rate in cosmetics: 2-10%.
4.Synthesis Method
Isopropyl palmitate is synthesized via direct esterification using palmitic acid and isopropyl alcohol as reactants. Two primary process routes exist depending on the selected catalyst type. Palmitic acid, isopropyl alcohol, and catalyst are added to a reactor for esterification. Upon completion of the reaction, sodium carbonate is introduced for neutralization and dehydration. Once the acid value meets specifications, the mixture undergoes decolorization with activated white clay. The treated intermediate product is then fed into a molecular distillation unit. The product obtained from molecular distillation is the finished isopropyl palmitate. Concentrated sulfuric acid is the most commonly used industrial catalyst due to its high catalytic efficiency and low cost. However, it causes severe equipment corrosion, produces dark-colored products during high-temperature reactions, and generates difficult-to-treat reaction waste liquids.
5.Chemical Properties
This product is a colorless to pale yellow oily liquid with a relative density (at 25°C) of 0.8520, refractive index nD20 of 1.4380, and a flash point >110°C. It is soluble in alcohol and ether but insoluble in glycerin and water.
6.Applications
Used in creams, lipsticks, facial cleansers, and bath liquids. It imparts a smooth, lustrous texture to creams without greasiness.
7.Application
It is widely applied in the pharmaceutical industry and the cosmetics industry.
