As a powerful immunological adjuvant, QS-21 is widely used in vaccine development, cancer treatment, and immunological research. Its unique immunomodulatory mechanism makes it an indispensable component in modern vaccinology.

♥Immunological Mechanisms and Clinical Applications

QS-21 has undergone nearly 15 years of research and validation, participating in over 120 clinical trials involving approximately 50,000 patients. It is currently being used in more than 20 clinical development programs by leading global pharmaceutical companies such as GSK, Johnson & Johnson, and Agenus.

♥Immunological Mechanisms

• Innate Immune Activation:

QS-21 activates antigen-presenting cells (such as dendritic cells), promoting the secretion of cytokines (e.g., IL-12, IFN-γ) and the expression of co-stimulatory molecules (e.g., CD86).

• Th1/Th2 Balance:

It induces a mixed Th1 and Th2 immune response, enhancing antibody production (IgG1/IgG2a) and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) responses.

• Adjuvant Synergy:

Often used in combination with other adjuvants (such as TLR agonists, aluminum salts, and liposomes), QS-21 exhibits synergistic effects (e.g., in the AS01B adjuvant system).
