Reactivity: The molecular structure of this substance contains two isocyanate groups (-N=C=O), which is its most significant chemical property. These groups are extremely reactive and can rapidly react with compounds containing active hydrogens (such as polyols, water, amines, etc.).
Solubility: The solubility in water at 20-25°C is very low, approximately 0.19 g/L.
Optical activity: It exhibits optical activity, with a specific rotation of approximately -35° (in dioxane at a concentration of 1%).
Stability: Highly sensitive to moisture. When exposed to air, it will react with water.
Physical parameters: The calculated density is approximately 1.12 g/cm³ at 20°C, and the boiling point is approximately 305°C at 760 Torr.
Synthetic biodegradable polyurethane: As a monomer, LDI can be used to synthesize polyurethane materials with good biocompatibility and biodegradability. It has significant research value in the biomedical fields such as tissue engineering scaffolds and drug sustained-release carriers.
Composite material interface modifier: Research has shown that LDI can significantly enhance the interface bonding performance of biobased composite materials such as polylactic acid/corn fiber (PLA/BF) and polybutylene succinate/corn fiber (PBC/BF), thereby improving their water resistance and tensile strength.
Organic synthesis intermediates: In the chemical industry, LDI can be used as a raw material or intermediate, and is applied in the production of pesticides, medicines, dyes, and surfactants.
Due to the similar health risks of LDI to common isocyanates, strict safety regulations must be followed when using it:
Hazard classification: Classified as Class 6.1 toxic substances, with the United Nations number UN 2206.
Main health hazards:
Inhalation toxicity: Inhalation may cause allergies, asthma symptoms or breathing difficulties.
Skin irritation/sensitization: Contact may cause skin irritation and allergic reactions.
Eye irritation: Contact may cause severe eye irritation.
Operation and Storage Requirements:
Operation: It should be carried out in a well-ventilated environment. Avoid inhaling its vapors or mist, and wear appropriate protective clothing, gloves and goggles.
Storage: It must be tightly sealed and stored at a temperature of 2-8°C in an inert gas environment (such as argon) to prevent deterioration due to reaction with moisture in the air.
