Sodium glycocholate is a conjugated bile salt and ionic biological detergent. Glycocholic acid is a primary conjugated bile acid in the body and a major component of bile acids. It undergoes primary biotransformation in liver cells by conjugating with glycine to form primary conjugated bile acids. Under normal circumstances, the concentration of GCA in serum is stable. When liver disease occurs, the concentration of GCA increases, which can be used as a sensitive indicator of liver function to reflect the severity of liver disease.
Sodium glycocholate can significantly inhibit the activity of proteolytic enzymes in nasal mucosa, reduce the degradation rate of insulin in mucosa, and has a certain inhibitory effect on the activity of proteolytic enzymes throughout the respiratory tract. At the same time, sodium glycocholate is also an important excipient for preparing solid preparations such as liposomes and lipid microspheres.
