9-Heptadecanol, or 9-Hydroxy-heptadecan, is a naturally occurring fatty alcohol derived from the oxidation of 9-hexadecenoic acid, commonly found in vegetable oils. It possesses several characteristics, including being a colorless, odorless, and waxy solid at room temperature, with a melting point of around 65° C. It is a significant component in the cuticular waxes of various plants and is a valuable intermediate compound in synthesizing other chemicals.
Heptadecan-9-ol (9-Heptadecanol) is a lipid with a secondary hydroxyl group and two non-polar tails.
