Core Application: Monomers for Synthesizing Biodegradable Polymers
This is the most prominent application value of this compound. It can undergo free radical ring-opening polymerization with vinyl-type monomers (such as methyl methacrylate, styrene, vinyl acetate, etc.). The unique feature is that after polymerization, ester bonds or ether bonds will be introduced into the traditional carbon-carbon main chain, thereby endowing the originally non-biodegradable polymer materials with biodegradability or biocompatibility. This characteristic has made it highly regarded in the fields of environmental materials and biomedical materials.
Organic synthetic intermediates
In the field of fine organic synthesis, it can also be used as a protecting group reagent to protect aldehyde groups in molecules. Moreover, it is an important intermediate or synthetic subunit for the synthesis of various heterocyclic compounds.
Purity: Purity varies among suppliers; common commercial grades range from 95% to >98.0%.
