2-Hydroxybenzylamine (2-HOBA, CAS 932-309)
Product Applications
2-Hydroxybenzylamine (2-HOBA, also known as Salicylamine) is a highly potent γ-ketoaldehyde (γKA) scavenger. It eliminates γKAs at a rate 980 times faster than the formation of γKA-protein adducts, thereby effectively protecting cells from the harmful effects of carbonyl stress.
1. Biomedical Research & Pharmaceutical Development
- Cardiovascular Disease Research: Used in studies on atherosclerosis, atrial fibrillation and familial hypercholesterolemia. It protects cardiac ion channels and reduces atherosclerotic lesions by scavenging reactive carbonyl species.
- Neurodegenerative Disease Research: Applied in preclinical studies of Alzheimer’s disease and mild cognitive impairment to mitigate protein carbonylation and oxidative damage.
- Anti-inflammatory & Antioxidant Research: Serves as a research tool to selectively remove isolevuglandins (IsoLGs), malondialdehyde (MDA) and other toxic carbonyl compounds.
2. Nutraceutical & Dietary Supplements
- As the active ingredient of Hobamine, which is naturally found in Himalayan tartary buckwheat, 2-HOBA is widely used in dietary supplements targeting anti-aging and carbonyl stress relief.
3. Organic Synthesis & Fine Chemicals
- Acts as a versatile building block with both phenolic hydroxyl and amino groups for the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates, biologically active molecules, dyes and agrochemicals.
4. Cosmetic & Personal Care
- Utilized in anti-aging and skin-repairing formulations due to its excellent antioxidant and carbonyl-scavenging properties.
5. Laboratory Research Tool
- Employed as a standard reference material and probe compound for the study of carbonyl stress mechanisms in aging and disease models.
