Chemical Properties

Colorless oily liquid. Melting point 38–40°C, boiling point 93–195°C, vapor pressure 85°C (2.3 kPa). Soluble in ethanol and diethyl ether; insoluble in water.

Applications

Used in organic synthesis.

Production Method

Heat cyclohexanone to 70-80°C. Add an ethanol solution containing selenium dioxide dropwise while maintaining the reaction temperature at 70-80°C. After complete addition, reflux for 2 hours. Evaporate the mixture, separate the precipitated selenium, and perform vacuum distillation for purification to obtain 1,2-cyclohexanedione.
