Applications of 1-Butyl-3-Methylimidazolium Chloride (CAS: 79917-90-1)

As a typical imidazolium ionic liquid, 1-Butyl-3-Methylimidazolium Chloride features excellent thermal stability, strong solvency, high electrical conductivity and extremely low vapor pressure. It is widely used as solvent, catalyst and functional additive in laboratories and industrial production. Its main applications are listed as follows:

1. Organic Synthesis & Catalysis

  1. Reaction Solvent
     

    It replaces traditional volatile organic solvents for addition, substitution, condensation, redox, coupling and other organic reactions. It improves reaction selectivity and yield, and is recyclable to reduce VOC emissions.

  2. Catalyst & Cocatalyst
     

    With inherent Lewis acidity, it is used alone or combined with metal salts and organic acids to catalyze esterification, etherification, cyclization and Friedel-Crafts reactions. It is commonly applied in the synthesis of fine chemicals, pharmaceutical intermediates and pesticide intermediates.

  3. Auxiliary for Chiral Synthesis
     

    Serves as reaction medium for asymmetric catalytic synthesis to enhance the purity of chiral products.
