It replaces traditional volatile organic solvents for addition, substitution, condensation, redox, coupling and other organic reactions. It improves reaction selectivity and yield, and is recyclable to reduce VOC emissions.
With inherent Lewis acidity, it is used alone or combined with metal salts and organic acids to catalyze esterification, etherification, cyclization and Friedel-Crafts reactions. It is commonly applied in the synthesis of fine chemicals, pharmaceutical intermediates and pesticide intermediates.
