1.Overview
Ionic liquids (also known as room-temperature molten salts) are liquids composed of ions. They are salts that remain liquid at low temperatures (<100°C), consisting of both anions and cations. Conventional ionic compounds only transition to a liquid state upon reaching specific temperatures, whereas ionic liquids remain liquid over a broad temperature range near room temperature (from below or close to room temperature up to 300°C). 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide can serve as an ionic liquid. In recent years, ionic liquids have also found extensive application in materials preparation, with research encompassing polymer synthesis in ionic liquids, preparation of inorganic nanomaterials, and processing of natural polymers.
