Main Uses:

It serves as a coenzyme for hydrogenases and dehydrogenases. NAD usually acts as a hydrogen acceptor, forming NADH, which then acts as a hydrogen donor in the respiratory chain. It is mainly present in the form of reduced form (NADPH) in living cells of Chemicalbook and participates in synthetic reactions. There are two forms, α-NAD and β-NAD, characterized by the configuration of the ribosyl nicotinamide bond. Only the β-isomer has biological activity.

Form a coenzyme redox pair (NAD+:NADH) that is involved in a wide range of enzyme-catalyzed oxidation-reduction reactions; its redox function, in the ADP-ribosylation process (ADPChemicalbook-ribosyltransferase, polymerization (ADP-ribosylase) reaction), is an ADP-ribose donor unit; and a precursor of a cyclic ADP-ribose (ADP-ribosyl cyclase)
