Pharmaceutical Name: Crospovidone
Pinyin: Jiaolian Juweitong
Chemical Name: Polyvinylpolypyrrolidone (PVPP)
INCI Name: Insoluble PVP
CAS No.: [25249-54-1]
- Description
This product is an insoluble polymer compound, a cross-linked polymer of N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP). The majority of the cross-linking is physical, forming a reticulated (mesh-like) structure.

Product Characteristics
This product is a white or off-white powder, odorless or with a slight characteristic odor, essentially tasteless, and insoluble in water, alkalis, acids, and organic solvents.
It is hygroscopic and water-absorptive. Upon absorbing water, it swells rapidly without forming a gel. The molecular chains extend upon hydration, resulting in rapid volume expansion and swelling pressure, which causes quick disintegration of tablets.
Like soluble povidone, it has complexation ability and can form complexes with compounds containing hydroxyl, carbonyl, or amino groups, thereby altering their solubility, odor, toxicity, and other physical properties.
- Applications
Can serve as excellent disintegrants, dispersants in liquid suspensions, taste-masking agents, detoxifying agents, solubilizers for poorly soluble drugs, and stabilizers for vitamins or herbal extracts.
In formulation, it is often used for its multifunctional roles including disintegration, solubilization, and stabilization.
- Packaging
