Product Name: Polyvinyl alcohol

CAS:9002-89-5

Appearance: white solid

Purity: ≥91%

Introduction:
Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a solid that can appear as a white powder, flakes, or flocculent particles. Its glass transition temperature is 60-85°C. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) contains numerous alcohol groups, making it polar and capable of forming hydrogen bonds with water, making it soluble in polar water. It is also soluble in hot hydroxyl-containing solvents such as glycerol and phenol, but insoluble in common organic solvents such as methanol, benzene, acetone, and gasoline.

Classification:
Based on the degree of polymerization (DP), PVA can be classified as ultra-high DP (molecular weight 250,000-300,000), high DP (molecular weight 170,000-220,000), medium DP (molecular weight 120,000-150,000), and low DP (molecular weight 25,000-35,000). The degree of alcoholysis generally ranges from complete alcoholysis (98% to 100% alcoholysis), partial alcoholysis (87% to 89% alcoholysis), and 78% alcoholysis. Product designations generally place the thousands and hundreds digits of the degree of polymerization first, and the alcoholysis degree afterward. For example, polyvinyl alcohol 17-99 indicates a degree of polymerization of 1.7k and an alcoholysis degree of 99%.

Applications:
Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a widely used water-soluble polymer. PVA dissolves rapidly in water to form a stable colloid with properties intermediate between those of plastics and rubbers. In addition to being used as a fiber raw material, it is also widely used in the production of coatings, adhesives, paper processing agents, emulsifiers, dispersants, and films. Its applications span the textile, food, pharmaceutical, construction, wood processing, papermaking, printing, agriculture, steel, and polymer chemical industries.

Functions:
PVA polymer powder is particularly suitable as a building mortar additive. When used in combination with a water-retaining agent such as methyl cellulose ether, it improves the flexibility, water retention, and adhesion of cement mortar. It also reduces friction, thereby enhancing work efficiency and quality.

Chemical Properties:
Polyvinyl alcohol resin products are white solids available in flocculent, granular, and powdery forms. They are non-toxic, odorless, and non-polluting, dissolving in water at 80-90°C. Their aqueous solutions exhibit excellent adhesion and film-forming properties and are resistant to most organic solvents, including oils, lubricants, and hydrocarbons. They exhibit chemical properties such as esterification, etherification, and acetalization of long-chain polyols.

Applications:
They are primarily used in the textile industry as warp yarn sizing, fabric finishing agents, and raw materials for vinylon fibers; in the building and decoration industry as 107 adhesives, interior and exterior wall coatings, and adhesives; in the chemical industry as polymer emulsifiers, dispersants, and polyvinyl alcohol acetals (formaldehyde, acetal, and butyral resins); in the papermaking industry as paper adhesives; and in agriculture as soil conditioners, pesticide adhesion enhancers, and polyvinyl alcohol films. They can also be used in daily cosmetics and high-frequency quenching agents.

Uses:
1. Mainly used in the manufacture of polyvinyl acetal, gasoline-resistant pipes, vinylon fibers, emulsifiers, dispersants, adhesives, fabric treatment agents, binding compounds, packaging films, and medical materials and products.
2. Adhesives and layering agents, fabric and paper sizing agents, thickening agents and stabilizers, and emulsifiers. 3. Used as warp yarn sizing agent, emulsion stabilizer, rewetting adhesive, water-soluble film, etc.
4. Used as a reagent and emulsifier for determining arsenic in steel, also used in textile and paper sizing, and in the pharmaceutical industry.
5. Primarily used as a raw material for vinylon, it can also be used to make films, leather adhesives, paper processing agents, textile finishing agents, 107 latex, etc.
6. Widely used in the inner packaging of industrial and chemical products, as well as consumer goods.
7. Used in vinylon spinning and sizing, and as a raw material for films, paper, adhesives, and dispersants.
8. Primarily used in the production of tarpaulins, canvas, rubber conveyor belts, tire cord for rickshaws, ropes, fishing nets, and packaging materials.

Production Method:
Made from saponified vinyl acetate
