As a preservative booster or functional antimicrobial ingredient, it is used for the preservation of cosmetic products (such as shampoos, hand washes, and body washes), as well as in functional personal care products like deodorants and antifungal foot creams.

As a topical antimicrobial agent, it is used for the disinfection and antisepsis of skin, mucous membranes and wounds. It is not affected by interfering substances such as blood or mucus, and has a low risk of inducing bacterial resistance.
