Introduction;
N-Isopropylacrylamide is a white crystalline solid with a low melting and boiling point, soluble in water, and mainly used in organic synthesis.
Uses;
N-Isopropylacrylamide is an acrylamide derivative monomer. Due to the presence of hydrophilic amide groups and hydrophobic isopropyl groups within the molecule, its homopolymers possess excellent properties such as a low critical dissolution temperature. It is mainly used to manufacture thermosensitive polymer gels, such as drug-controlled release materials, solid enzyme materials, dehydrating agents, and concentrators. It can also be used to manufacture modified latexes, specialty coatings, and adhesives.
N-Isopropylacrylamide is used to prepare poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (pNIPA, pNIPAAm, pNIPAm) thermosensitive polymers or copolymer hydrogels. Polymers containing NIPAM shrink rapidly above 33°C. This monomer is used to prepare thermosensitive, water-swellable hydrogels.
