The construction of carbon-heteroatom bonds is a fundamental reaction in organic synthesis. MoO₂(acac)₂-derived catalysts can effectively promote the dehydrative coupling reactions between alcohols and alcohols (or phenols), as well as between alcohols and thiols, yielding ethers and thioethers, respectively.

Catalytic System: Molybdenum(VI) complexes containing Schiff-base ligands such as N,N’-disalicylidene-1,2-cyclohexanediamine have been proven to be highly efficient catalysts for the etherification/thioetherification of alcohols and thiols.

Synthetic Significance: This reaction provides a direct and efficient route for the synthesis of structurally specific ether and thioether compounds, which are widely found in pharmaceutical molecules and functional materials.
