Introduction:
Ethylhexyl Triazone (UVT-150) is an oil-soluble UV absorber with the strongest UV-B absorption capacity. It exhibits high photostability and water resistance, and has good affinity for skin keratin.
Uses:
Ethylhexyl Triazone is a novel type of UV absorber developed in recent years. It possesses a large molecular structure and high UV absorption efficiency, providing broad-spectrum sun protection against both UVB and UVA rays. It can be used as an additive in sunscreen products.
Production Method:
Add 470.64g (0.97mol) of H3TATAB white solid, 504.40g (3.88mol) of isooctanol, 600mL of toluene, and 30g of p-toluenesulfonic acid to a 5000mL four-necked flask. Stir and heat to reflux, removing water through a water separator. Maintain the reaction temperature at 105-115℃ until H3TATAB is completely converted. After the reaction was complete, the mixture was cooled to 90°C and washed with alkali and water. Xylene and isooctanol were then recovered by vacuum distillation to obtain crude Ethylhexyl Triazone. The crude product was cooled to 85°C, and 600 g of methanol was added. The mixture was heated and stirred until completely dissolved, then cooled. 5000 mL of cyclohexane was added to a 3500 mL glass reactor, stirred, and cooled to -10°C. While maintaining a cooling water circulation system, the solution was slowly added dropwise, and rapid crystal precipitation was observed. After the addition was complete, the mixture was filtered and dried to obtain 748.46 g (0.91 mol) of white crystalline UVT-150 product. HPLC analysis showed a purity of 99.18%, and the structure was confirmed as the target product, Ethylhexyl Triazone, by 1H-NMR and mass spectrometry (MS). The yield was 93.74%, and the overall yield of the two-step reaction was 90.93%.
