💊Pharmacological action
Domperidone is a peripheral dopamine D2 receptor antagonist and has the following characteristics:
Gastric motility promoting effect: Acts directly on the gastrointestinal wall, increases the tension of the lower esophageal sphincter, prevents gastroesophageal reflux, enhances gastric peristalsis, promotes gastric emptying, and coordinates the movements of the stomach and the duodenum.
Antiemetic effect: Inhibits nausea and vomiting, effectively preventing bile reflux
Difficult to cross the blood-brain barrier: It has no inhibitory effect on dopamine receptors in the brain, thus causing no adverse neurological or mental reactions such as extrapyramidal symptoms.
Prolactin release: It can stimulate the secretion of prolactin.
🎯Clinical applications
Functional, organic, infectious nausea and vomiting
Non-ulcer dyspepsia
Indigestion, heartburn, upper abdominal pain
Gastric dyskinesia (delayed gastric emptying)
