Biological Activity
AzureB is a cationic dye and the primary metabolite of Methylene Blue, used as the Azure B stain for blood smear staining. Azure B is a potent, selective, and reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase (MAO)-A, with IC50 values of 11 and 968 nM for recombinant human MAO-A and MAO-B, respectively. Azure B exhibits significant antidepressant effects.

In Vivo Studies
AzureB (4-30 mg/kg; i.p.; once) decreases immobility in the forced swim test (FST).
