🔍Major Biological Activities
Taxifolin is a natural product with multiple biological activities, the main ones being:
Anti-inflammatory Effects: It inhibits NF-κB activation and downregulates COX-2 and iNOS expression, thereby suppressing PGE2 biosynthesis. In RAW 264.7 cells, it concentration-dependently inhibits nitric oxide production at concentrations ranging from 1 to 60 µM.
Antioxidant Effects: It exhibits excellent antioxidant properties, scavenging free radicals and reducing oxidative stress.
Antitumor activity: It exhibits inhibitory effects on human glioma cells (U-87 MG), with an IC₅₀ of 100 µM at 48 hours. It induces apoptosis and arrests the cell cycle at the sub-G1 phase. In SW480 cells, high concentrations (150 μmol/L) significantly induce apoptosis.
Neuroprotective effects: As a negative modulator of GABA(A) receptors, it exerts neuroprotective effects in epileptic mouse models through anti-inflammatory mechanisms. Oral administration of 25 mg/kg (once daily for 3 consecutive days) effectively prevents seizures.
Antibacterial activity: It exhibits inhibitory activity against various pathogenic bacteria, including Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, with MIC values ranging from 4 to 32 µg/mL.
Antiviral activity: It exhibits antiviral activity.
Enzyme inhibitory activity: It is a potent inhibitor of CYP3A4 and CYP2C9 and may interact with various drugs. It is also an inhibitor of human tissue plasminogen activator (tPA).
📦Storage and Stability
Storage Conditions: The recommended storage temperature is -20°C, with a shelf life of at least one year. The solid powder can be stored for at least one month at 4°C. Some suppliers also recommend long-term storage at 2–8°C.
Precautions: This compound is prone to oxidation and must be stored in a sealed container, protected from light and moisture. Prolonged exposure to air will result in a decrease in concentration. If dissolved in a solvent other than DMSO, it is recommended to aliquot the solution and store it at -80°C.
