Uses;
8-Bromooctanoic acid is a useful compound for sonodynamic therapy.
Production Method;
The general procedure for synthesizing 8-bromooctanoic acid from ethyl 8-bromooctanoate is as follows: 1M sodium hydroxide solution (3.98 mL) is slowly added dropwise to an ethanol (10 mL) solution of ethyl 8-bromooctanoate (1.0 g, 3.98 mmol). The reaction mixture is stirred at 0 °C for 5 hours. After the reaction is complete, the reaction mixture is acidified with 1M hydrochloric acid solution, followed by extraction with ethyl acetate (3 × 10 mL). The combined organic layers are washed successively with saturated sodium bicarbonate solution (2 × 20 mL) and saturated sodium chloride solution (2 × 20 mL). The organic layer is dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 0.86 g of 8-Bromooctanoic acid (compound 17) as a colorless oil, with a yield of 97%.
