Application of Dimethyl 2,5-Furan Dicarbaldehyde (DFF) CAS:823-82-5

Core Position: As an intermediate, 2,5-furan dicarbaldehyde (DFF) can synthesize a variety of high-value utilizable compounds, including pharmaceutical intermediates, antibacterial agents, binders, fluorescent agents, etc. It also has application value in the research of macrocyclic ligands and organic conductors. In addition, it is a highly reactive bio-based dialdehyde platform chemical, serving as a key intermediate for replacing petroleum-based chemicals, with strong reactivity of aldehyde groups for condensation, reduction, oxidation and other reactions. It is widely used in green chemical industry with renewable biomass as raw material.

1. Polymer Materials (Core Application)

  • Replaces petroleum-based crosslinkers (e.g., glutaraldehyde) for crosslinking modification of polymers to improve temperature resistance, mechanical and chemical resistance.
  • Synthesizes bio-based high-performance polymers (polySchiff base, polyimide, furan epoxy resin, polyurethane) for electronic packaging, composite materials and special coatings.
  • Prepares sustainable TFC composite membranes for reverse osmosis/nanofiltration in water treatment.
  • Acts as an enzyme immobilization carrier to enhance the stability and reusability of industrial enzymes.

2. Fine Chemicals

  • Serves as intermediate for pharmaceuticals and pesticides, synthesizing active ingredients of antibacterial drugs, antitumor drugs and herbicides via condensation and reduction.
  • Prepares functional materials such as fluorescent probes (highly selective for Hg²+ detection), macrocyclic ligands and optoelectronic functional materials.
  • Used as antibacterial agent and crosslinking modifier in cosmetics and textile auxiliaries systems.

3. New Energy & Green Chemical Industry

  • A core intermediate for high-value conversion of biomass, derived from selective oxidation of HMF (from renewable biomass like fructose, cellulose and straw).
  • Synthesizes bio-based fuel additives and precursor of energy storage materials, meeting the raw material greening demand of new energy industry chain.

4. Other Industrial Uses

  • Acts as an organic synthesis building block for constructing furan-containing complex molecular structures in lab and industrial organic synthesis.
  • Serves as crosslinking component of paper wet strength agent to improve the wet strength and water resistance of paper products.
