Applications of 2,4,6,8-Tetramethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4H , CAS No.: 2370-88-9)

I. Core Intermediate for Silicone Synthesis (Primary Application)

This product features four reactive Si-H hydrosilicon bonds in its molecular structure. As a key monomer for manufacturing functional organosilicon materials, it enables customized siloxane structures via two core reactions: ring-opening polymerization and hydrosilylation.

Custom Hydrogen-Containing Silicone Oil Production

Ring-opening polymerization is adopted to synthesize polymethylhydrogen siloxane with precisely controllable hydrogen content and chain segment count, including high-hydrogen silicone oil and methylphenyl hydrogen-containing silicone oil, which serve as base raw materials for all types of modified silicone oils.

Synthesis of Various Functional Modified Silicone Oils

Hydrosilylation reactions with olefins produce polyether silicone oil, long-chain alkyl silicone oil, epoxy silicone oil, amino silicone oil and side-chain liquid crystalline polysiloxane, which are widely applied in textile, coating, daily chemical and mold release systems.

Special Crosslinking Agent for Silicone Rubber

It acts as the core crosslinking component for addition-cure liquid silicone rubber (LSR), room-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (RTV) and LED/electronic encapsulant. It crosslinks and cures with vinyl siloxane to improve the transparency, mechanical strength, high & low temperature resistance, insulation and weather resistance of adhesive layers.

 

Compared with traditional linear hydrogen-containing silicone oil, it delivers uniform crosslink density without small molecule volatilization, suitable for the production of high-end transparent silicone rubber and medical-grade silicone rubber.

Synthesis of Silicone Resins and Tackifiers

It provides reactive Si-H sites for the preparation of primer tackifying resins and high-temperature resistant silicone resins, enhancing the adhesion between silicone materials and substrates such as metal, glass and plastic.

II. Hydrophobic Surface Modification of Inorganic Materials

  • Surface treatment agent for inorganic fillers including fumed silica, alumina and aluminum hydroxide: It improves the dispersibility of fillers in silicone rubber, plastics and epoxy resin, reduces system viscosity, and boosts the hydrophobicity and insulation performance of composite materials.
  • Raw material for waterproof coatings on glass, metal and ceramic substrates: A dense hydrophobic siloxane film will form after coating, delivering moisture-proof, anti-corrosion and easy demolding effects.

III. Semiconductor & Microelectronics Industry (Special High-Purity Electronic Grade)

High-purity grade products (Purity GC ≥99.0%, APHA color ≤20) serve as precursors for PECVD (Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition):
  • Fabricate low-dielectric SiO₂ and SiOC insulating passivation films, which function as interlayer insulation and moisture-proof protective layers for chips, wafers and thin-film transistors (TFT).
  • Raw material for insulating coating of optoelectronic and display devices to produce ultra-thin dielectric layers with high compactness and low leakage current.
