This additive significantly enhances the cycling performance and capacity retention of silicon-based anodes and high-voltage lithium-metal batteries. For example, in SiO/C anodes, it can increase the capacity retention from approximately 45% to over 73% after 100 cycles.

It raises the thermal decomposition onset temperature and reaction activation energy of battery materials, effectively delaying thermal runaway and providing an additional safety margin for the battery.
